Yes, we’re back this weekend! 🎉
It’s true, the market is back!
More than 140 days and 20 Saturdays have passed since we last saw you. And with great excitement, we’re now welcoming you back to the Franschhoek Village Market – where locals meet.
This Saturday, 8 August, our traders will be back in action – spoiling you with their art, crafts and delicious food, and soulful background music.
Come spend Saturday with us, bring the children, family and furry friends (on a leash), and enjoy Franschhoek at its best. Doors open from 10am - 3pm on Saturday.
We’ve put these rules in place for everyone’s safety
We’ve been working closely with Franschhoek Disaster Management and Ashley Bauer, to ensure we’re following the correct COVID-19 procedures. The health and safety of all traders and visitors to the market is extremely important to us.
We therefore ask that you PLEASE adhere to these rules and regulations that have been put in place:
- There will only be one entry (via the main road) and one exit. Please make use of these entries accordingly.- No mask, unfortunately no entry.
- Please register your name when you enter. Our team will also document your temperature.
- Unfortunately, the sale of alcohol will not be permitted (but our traders have amazing mocktails they’re ready for you to taste).
- Please make use of hand sanitizers at all times.
- Please maintain social distancing throughout your visit.
The market will have cleaning staff on hand, ensuring all surfaces, bathrooms and play areas are kept clean at all times. We’ve also changed the layout of the market, ensuring better and easier flow and space between the stalls.
Thank you so much for understanding and helping keep everyone safe.
Women’s Day: The women behind the Franschhoek Village Market
You’ll see them, every Saturday, calmly strolling through the market sporting a big smile. But make no mistake, it takes a lot of work to ensure a successful weekly market.
These are the women behind the Franschhoek Village Market: Elsuna and Izanne.
So this Women’s Month, we’re celebrating their hard work and passion.
Elsuna and her daughter, Elzahn, took over the market from the NG Church in 2016 and Izanne joined as manager in 2018. Elsuna is a well-known face in the area. Many will remember her from her teaching days in Paarl. And with her roots in Franschhoek (she grew up on their family farm here), Elsuna has always been part of the Franschhoek family. Her love of people shines through in her interaction with traders and visitors alike.
Izanne has lived in Franschhoek for the past 6 years. For her, the vibe and colour of Franschhoek excite her today as much as they did when she first moved here. In small towns like Franschhoek, people care for each other. Combine that with the vibrance of the visitors to the market, and you’ll see Izanne at her happiest.
We love the work you do, Elsuna and Izanne!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all who have supported us through this difficult time. We now look forward to seeing you at the market, supporting our local traders, chefs and artists.
Warm regards,
The Franschhoek Village Market team
